We were in Mzuzu recently to research recycling as a joint venture with the local Mzuzu Executive Council, and it was an amazing experience. The women in government from the President to Agricultural Farmers are an inspiration to all other women in Africa. Keep up the good work, and best wishes from all of us. Malawians have developed/designed some great fuel efficient/smokeless stoves, using locally available resources, and there are companies/groups and NGO's out there desperately trying to promote and sell their products! It would have been a great boost for the local economy and the reputation of these people, if they had been given the opportunity to produce the 10,000 stoves. Sadly, the families of the 10,000 selected children, will become reliant on the donation of a foreign product, and will not make the connection that they could make one of these stoves themselves, pretty much for free!

Re: A Day In the Life of A tobacco Farmer.

Totally agree, tobacco farming is not an easy thing to do in Africa, they do most of work manually which require a lot of time and energy.

Re: Malawi’s dependence on maize has led to malnutrition.

Seems the behaviour challenge is not only on the local level, but with Governments and Donors too. That's up to the person it's given to basically. We are patterning on this in another village as concerned individuals with a very small cause who funds are donated to, using a trusted agent in the north of Blantyre. It's the 'here and now' that needs to be addressed in a time like this. I approve of what President Joyce Banda is doing, by giving food to those who have become refugees in their own country, and stopping export of maize (as well as selling the previous president's jet plane)

Re: Oxfam Gives Cash to Malawians Affected by Hunger, $40 per month.

I wonder why OXFARM has thought of implementing the idea of giving money to people instead of giving them something to eat. why giving them $40?

Re: Oxfam Gives Cash to Malawians Affected by Hunger, $40 per month.

but it has always been too late for all the governments to think abt this strategy.Malawi has alwayz and always been in hunger....................................

Re: Oxfam Gives Cash to Malawians Affected by Hunger, $40 per month.

Both of them, they are a shame to this nation. They are all crooks.
